The Bach Aria Soloists, founded and directed by Elizabeth Suh Lane,
is a national treasure, right here in Kansas City. This matchless
group, now in its ninth year, has an unparalleled repertoire of
Johann Sebastian Bach’s diverse pieces, as well as other Baroque
and contemporary composers.
The group has commissioned two
world premiere works: Susan Kander’s “Partite Americaine” and “Accompagnata,
a ViolinDance,” featuring choreographer Elizabeth Koeppen and violinist
Elizabeth Suh Lane. The 2006-2007 season culminated in “Bach
Unlocked,” with Harvard professor Dr. Christoph Wolff, the world’s
preeminent authority on Bach, in a public concert at Kansas City’s
Central Library.
The Library Series continues with two diverse performances featuring
guest artists David Adams, tenor; Beau Bledsoe, guitar; Allen Probus,
cello; and Stephan Casurella, harpsichord. In conjunction with
these concerts, the ensemble offers its educational outreach program, Bachreach,
in which audiences can participate in an interactive, open rehearsal. The Hauskonzert
Series replicates the intimate settings that Johann Sebastian
Bach intended for his masterpieces. Hosted by benefactors in
their homes, with libations, hors d’oeuvres, a full-length performance,
and a reception, these special evenings satiate all the senses. As
a finale to this year’s spectacular season, the ensemble will be
collaborating with the Owen/Cox Dance Group to perform two world
premieres.
