Artist name: Kale Van Leeuwen, originally from St. Paul, Kan., but
I now live in Shawnee, Kan.
Occupation: graphic artist for Pro Business Printing
Main Art Form: colored pencil and mixed media
“My work is bold, exciting and fast-paced! It represents the fashion
and lifestyle of a large city. It’s odd since I come from a town
of roughly 500 people. However, I have always been fascinated with
the allure of large cities, and the way people in metropolitan areas
live, eat and dress. People aren’t afraid to be different in big
cities,” he says. “Unlike many artists, I like to mix up the mediums
in which I work. I might work in colored pencil one day and computer
graphics the next. The variety keeps me interested and excited. On
this site you will find realistic work, abstract work, and some that
is a little bit of both. As far as materials, I use pencil, colored
pencil, oil pastel, acrylic, ink, sugar, spray paint, collage, and
recently computer graphics.”
Goals: One day I hope to have my own gallery in the Kansas City
area.
Shows: Leeuwen’s colored pencil works will be at July 13 – Sept.
